How do eggshells treat cavities?

– effect of fluoride
When the tooth enamel gets exposed to fluoride, some of the hydroxy groups (OH-) are replaced with fluoride ions. The compound that forms as a result of this replacement is less soluble and also more resistant to acid erosion. In the same way, when chicken eggshells are soaked in a fluoride solution, there is a negligible possibility of the shells getting softened in the presence of an acid.

Both chicken eggshells and teeth tend to soften and will lose minerals in the presence of an acid. Loss of calcium will make the eggshells weak. Similarly calcium ions are released when acid is added to tooth enamel. This results in the de-mineralization of tooth enamel and can cause etching on the surface of the teeth.
In what other ways are eggshells beneficial?
In addition to treating cavities and strengthening weak teeth, eggshells also have benefits for small children. Children’s bodies more intensely take part in the development of bone tissue. This requires a continuous supply of calcium which only eggshells can provide.
Chicken eggshells are instrumental in preventing anaemia and rickets in babies. They also promote blood-activation in bone tissue.
