Looking for a smoothie that won’t expand your waistline or leave you feeling bloated? Look no further!
This Ruby Smoothie recipe uses nut milk instead of dairy milk. Many who have consumed dairy have experienced less-than-pleasant gastrointestinal problems, such as gas and bloating. Nut milk is a good alternative for those who are lactose intolerant.
The smoothie below is also packed with raspberries, which are extremely good for your health.
Health Benefits of Raspberries
Raspberries like many other fruits are rich in Vitamin C. As an antioxidant, Vitamin C supports the immune system and works in our bodies to neutralize free radicals. In turn, this essential nutrient protects us from harmful viruses and diseases, such as common cold and the flu.
Raspberries also have a high content of manganese and fiber, which play a role in bone health and digestive health, respectively. In addition, this sweet, juicy fruit offers the following health benefits:
Regulates blood sugar levels
High-fiber foods are not only good for promoting healthy bowel movements, they are also known to stabilize your blood sugar.
Studies have shown that those with type 2 diabetes who consumed a diet rich in fiber had an improvement in blood sugar, lipids and insulin levels.
As well, because raspberries have a low glycemic index, adding them to your diet will not spike your blood glucose levels.
Aids with weight loss
Low glycemic index foods are also beneficial for those who are looking to shed a few pounds.
Raspberries in particular have been found to help with our weight loss goals as they contain a specific compound known as raspberry ketones, which boost our metabolism and allow our bodies to burn more calories.
This compound also helps us digest and absorb less fat.
Promotes healthy vision
Vitamin C doesn’t just boost our immunity. This essential nutrient also plays a role in thehealth of our eyes by acting as a shield against UV light damage.
Consuming the daily recommended amount of fruits in general has been found to lower your risk of developing age-related macular degeneration.
Protects against cancer
In addition to the illnesses mentioned above, consuming raspberries helps protect our bodies from developing various types of cancer, including lung, mouth, pancreatic, esophageal and colon.
The powerful antioxidant content in raspberries is able to fight free radicals, which have the potential to be hazardous to our bodies. Although free radicals naturally form in our bodies, they have a tendency to damage our cells too and some cells become cancerous in the process. Thus, it’s crucial that we regularly consume enough antioxidants to fight against these chemicals.
This Ruby Smoothie is sure to fill you with the antioxidants you need.
